The mod_cern_meta Apache module provides the CERN meta file semantics for your Apache web server. For more information about the CERN meta file semantics, read W3's General W3C httpd Configuration Directives documentation.


Use the mod_cern_meta Apache module to add additional HTTP headers to the files on your Apache web server.

How to install or uninstall mod_cern_meta

The EasyApache profiles do not provide the mod_cern_meta Apache module by default.

To install or uninstall the mod_cern_meta Apache module, perform the following steps:

EasyApache 3 does not support new installations of Tomcat.

As of cPanel & WHM version 76, EasyApache 4 now supports Tomcat 8.5. For more information, read our Tomcat documentation.

  1. Run EasyApache in WHM's EasyApache 3 interface (Home >> Software >> EasyApache 3).


    • To access EasyApache from the command line interface, run the /scripts/easyapache script as the root user.
    • For more information on EasyApache, read our EasyApache documentation.
  2. Select the profile that you wish to modify.

  3. Click the  icon that corresponds to your selection.

  4. Click Next Step in the Apache Version stage.
  5. Click Next Step in the PHP Version stage.
  6. Click Exhaustive Options List in the Short Options List stage.
  7. Perform one of the following actions in the Exhaustive Options List stage:
    • To install the mod_cern_meta Apache module, select the CernMeta option.


      If you select this option, EasyApache adds --enable-cern-meta to Apache's build options.

    • To uninstall the mod_cern_meta Apache module, deselect the CernMeta option.
  8. Click Save and Build.

How to enable or disable the module in a custom EasyApache profile file

The following table provides information about how EasyApache refers to the mod_cern_meta Apache module:

To enable or disable the mod_cern_meta Apache module in a custom EasyApache profile file, set the Apache: optmods: CernMeta profile entry to one of the following values:

  • 1 – This value enables the module.
  • 0 – This value disables the module.

Emulate the CERN HTTPD Meta file semantics. Meta files are HTTP headers that can be output in addition to the normal range of headers for each file accessed. They appear rather like the Apache .asis files, and are able to provide a crude way of influencing the Expires: header, as well as providing other curiosities. There are many ways to manage meta information, this one was chosen because there is already a large number of CERN users who can exploit this module.
